Fondation Jérôme Seydoux-Pathé - Cineteca di Bologna Archive Concept

8000 sqm

Conservation archive

The Project was commissioned by the Fondation Jérôme Seydoux-Pathé and the Cineteca di Bologna with the purpose of imagine an ideal archive for the preservation of films, with particular attention at the functional and energy-save aspects, an autonomous building from the energetic point of view with the maximum functionality of spaces.

The design process started from the primary need of film's conservation: low temperatures and specific percentage of humidity. The survey of most recent technologies, adopted in the food preservation techniques and in low environmental impact buildings, has brought to the adoption of solutions that permit the reduction of the annual energy requirement of about 70% compared to a traditional building.

The external "double skin" fulfills the shading function in different directions and becomes a distinctive feature of the building. The internal layout guarantees the maximum storage capacity in the smallest possible space and a careful diversification of areas for each material to be preserved.
